Automated crate storage system
An automated crate storage system developed by RMA Techniek for automatically sorting and retrieving crates in a warehouse.
The first step in the process is the supply of the crates. The crate dimensions are 650 × 450 × 300 mm (L × W × H). The crates are transported by a roller conveyor to the entrance of the storage system. When a crate reaches the end of the conveyor, a sensor detects its presence. The storage system then automatically picks up the crate from the conveyor and places it in the designated storage position.
The system can also be configured to receive information about the product that is to be stored. The system automatically assigns an identification number to the product and transports the crate to the corresponding storage position.
Data can be entered manually via an HMI touchscreen, which is available in different sizes. The touchscreen makes it quick and easy to link an identification number to a product. In addition, the system can be configured to make the data available online, providing a real-time overview of which product is stored in which location.
Alternatively, the crates can be automatically identified using a QR code scanner. The QR code is linked to the crate, allowing the system to track its location in real time. This is complemented by a backup function in the event of a power failure or system error.
Products can also be retrieved using the HMI screen. The storage system automatically locates the corresponding crate, retrieves it from the storage rack and transports it back to the starting position. The crate is then placed on the outfeed roller conveyor, which runs parallel to the infeed conveyor.
Specifications of the complete automated crate storage system:
- Storage capacity of 196 crates (2 rows, 12 crates deep, 8 crates high)
- Designed to retrieve or store 2 crates simultaneously
- Crate dimensions: 620 × 450 × 300 mm (L × W × H)
- Maximum storage capacity: 70 kg
- Throughput: 4 minutes per loading/unloading cycle for 2 crates
- Crates are handled according to the First In, First Out (FIFO) principle
- Safety fencing around the storage system, with a side access door; one side positioned against the wall
- Front of the storage system fitted with mesh guarding to prevent products from falling out
- Top of the storage system fully enclosed
- Impact protection at the infeed and outfeed roller conveyors
